I have a couple pairs of the original version of these (with no ankle strap) and I wear them all the time . . . love them. However, I wanted a pair more securely affixed to my feet for walking all day on cobblestones and up and down lots of steps. These are not those. The ankle strap is there just to give a hint of the gladiator look, not to hold your foot in. Yes, the shoes would stay on if you tried to kick them off, but the straps don’t really hold the shoe to your foot. They are just as floppy/flappy when I walk at the originals, and not as flattering.

Definitely took a while to break in, but now they fit great, and I get compliments every time I wear them. Be wary of walking too far in them, particularly at first. After a couple weeks of owning them, I wore them all day for the first time. I walk as part of my commute about 3 miles a day. Around mile 2 I realized that I was getting blisters on the bottoms of my feet. I ended up calling for a ride home, which delayed my getting home by about an hour.It's a few weeks later now, and these sandals and I are getting along much better now. Ease into them, for sure. I find them extremely comfortable now, and very versatile. They can easily be both casual and formal, so they're really great in a lot of situations. These are actually my second pair in this style. My first one was in brown leather, which I recall having a little more flexibility to the leather when I first got them. I have the onyx now, and I really like the metallic sheen they have. Once you break them in, you might not need another pair of shoes all summer.

These are well made sandals and my wife says extremely comfortable. Good price for the Birkenstock brand of shoes.

 Update 2!: they sent me a replacement and I haven’t had any issues so far so I upped my rating some.Update: after using it only a few times, the shoulder strap snapped off and I can’t just replace it because the buckle area at the side is where it broke off. I can’t seem to message the seller, either.I absolutely love this Tote bag. The quality is amazing and it’s super cute! I got an insert and it fits perfectly to help organize it!

Delivered on time. True Birkenstocks. Will last long as my other did. This style is more comfortable than the other.
